I really like this hall tree but it has a couple quirks about it. It has a distressed look that I like and fits with many other distressed items we have in our house. I have assembled many pieces of furniture and am a DIYer around the house so the assembly was pretty easy for me (took about an hour) and I thought the directions were quite clear. The base is very sturdy and the arm that holds the door open works well to hold the door open but snaps it closed quite quickly and loudly so be careful with young children. Other concerns I have is the back could be sturdier and it sways a little if large coats or any heavy item is put on the racks. I also had a cam connector break when I tightened it. Hayneedle doesn't have replacement parts available but I was able to find a similar part at the local hardware store.[...] Overall a positive experience and I would recommend Hayneedle and this hall tree to anyone.

This is a very nice hall tree for the price. I am pleased and would recommend it. However, assembly not so easy and instructions make it less so. Advice from husband who put it together, read ahead. Make sure you have a long, skinny, magnetic phillips head screw driver to attach the gas lift for the bench seat - that is the hardest part.

I purchased this hall tree (in black) for my foyer and stored all of our scarves, hats, gloves, and earmuffs in the bench for the winter. The storage space is very roomy and the hinge holds it open while you look for stuff. The hooks are very sturdy and hold our guests' coats. The mirror is at the perfect height for an average person. We did not attach the hall tree to the wall because we simply didn't need to (no children here). It was fairly simple to put together althoughwe were missing ONE screw. There were no extra parts included in the box. The hall tree is VERY sturdy and the construction is genius (at least to me). It came VERY WELL packaged and there wasn't one nick or scratch on the hall tree. NOTE: The black hall tree is distressed on the edges. It is not solid black, but the edges look a little red. I personally liked it and think it adds character. The bench is an odd size and it has been VERY difficult finding a cushion for it. We ended up purchasing 2 seat cushions and placing them side by side. It actually looks really nice.
All in all, this is a beautiful and sturdy hall tree; recommend to everyone!
